PASSION FRUIT FLOWER

Passion Fruit Flower

This tropical fruit rich in vitamin C and source of proteins, minerals and carbohydrates comes from the homonymous plant, and has a very striking and special flower: La passionaria. Its appearance is similar to a crown of thorns and the Spanish colonizers when seeing it, related its elements with those that were used in the crucifixion of Jesus and baptized the passion fruit as the fruit of passion.

Its pentarradial structure received a theological interpretation. Its five petals and five sepals symbolize ten of the twelve apostles (all except Judas Iscariot and Peter), and the five stamens would represent the five stigmas.
